David, Lyn, Benjamin, and Georgia have made this Pasadena landmark their own Home As Art. This Greene and Greene Craftsman is now available for sale.
What do you love most about your home? The flow of the home's floor plan. It has great bones. All
of the rooms feel unique as each space takes advantage of its location. The
wood is beautiful throughout, and there are windows everywhere that allow the
natural light in and provide views of the lawn and sunset.
What drew you to your home? One of the things that attracted us to the house was its
authenticity. We felt there was a grace and warm charm. The materials, the
light, and the sense of strength it has were all alluring. No one had worked on
it for years and the decor was decades old when we first walked in, but having
the vision of the homes possibilities was appealing. We also loved the street
with its mature oak trees and wide sidewalks.
What is your favorite thing to do at home? Have friends over, the space is great for entertaining. The
flow of the house works for both adults and kids. When we have parties there
are people hanging out in every part of the house, and the kids entertain
themselves really easily, going back and forth between the upstairs rooms and
roaming around the backyard.
When I'm home I feel...? Relaxed
and present. Having been built so long ago the house has a relative ease about
it that encourages you to slow down and be a part of the space you are in.
What makes your home "Art"? Charles and Henry Greene were artists. The use of materials,
proportions, and colors (once we found the original ones) reveal the amount of
planning and thought that went into the design of each room. Their creativity
is inspiring.
