Venice Art Crawl :: Exhibition at the deasy/penner&venice pod

This Thursday :: March 19TH 6-10PM :: 308 Westminster Avenue, Venice, CA

Featuring The Work Of Zach Touchon

The work is influenced by advertising, particularly billboards in third world countries with heavily distressed surfaces. A history is created by adding layer after layer of paint and found materials. The goal of the work is to find a balance between chaos and control culminating in a sense of calm and integrity.

The work strives to cross boundaries and merge ideas creating something new and unique without losing sight of the school of thought that influenced the work. There is an undertone of child-like innocence with a fine-tuned maturity in the well thought out finished work.

The work is process driven, there is a kind of magic that happens when the composition reveals its self naturally through the process. Depth is created through the use of contrasting colors and shading, inviting the viewer to gaze into some other dimension. An intimate experience happens between the work and the viewer. Movement is created through the use of stacking and repeating shapes on top of each other. The composition appears to be suspended, making the viewer feel as though they could stick there hand right through the surface.

Historic Home designed by Henry Greene

Designed in 1925 by Henry Greene for William Thum, former mayor of Pasadena (1911-1913),the Thum house is an example of Henry Greene’s ability to adapt to and embrace the desires of his client rather than the Craftsman or Spanish Colonial Revival architecture for which he and his brother, Charles are world renowned.

On one of the prettiest streets in northeast Pasadena with Mediterranean revival influences this historically significant home is full of architectural details throughout. Notice the graceful entry, the spacious living room with fireplace, large formal dining room, tall ceilings, hardwood floors and crown mouldings. The first floor of this elegant home also includes library/family room with a wall of built-in Australian Gumwood book and display shelves. The updated kitchen with centre- island and large breakfast area have unobstructed views of the landscaped garden from the many windows, French doors and built-in window seat. Upstairs offers 4 spacious bedrooms and 3 bathrooms including an opulent master suite and a light filled office/den with lovely views of the San Gabriel Mountains. There is additional storage on the third level as well as a large basement. Back garden entertaining is effortless with a patio, grassy grounds, built-in barbecue and fireplace.

This home elegantly combines modern-day comforts with the grand character of its long history and is a contributor to the North Pasadena Heights Landmark District that was established in 2006. Building biography and floor plan available upon request or on the website.
