Partner Spotlight: Frank Langen

Senior Partner Frank Langen, a Santa Monica native who has been selling homes in Los Angeles for 20 years, was first drawn to art and architecture in his youth. After graduating from the University of Colorado at Boulder, Frank worked as a commodities trader in Paris, Milan and Hamburg and later as a photographer. How long have you been with deasy/penner? Since the beginning!

What are your favorite architecture styles? Anything that sings or is in tune like an instrument when you enter it.

Do you have a favorite house you've sold or bought for a client? One of my favorites was “The Gertler Residence.” It was originally built in 1970 with a timeless design by Ray Kappe, one of my favorite architects, in the area I live and love and sell many houses. The house had never been on the market before and was a perfect time capsule when the grown kids hired me to sell it – the perfect combination.


What’s your best piece of advice to someone house hunting in LA? Be patient and only buy when you know the house right for you. Don’t pay attention to the herd.

What’s one thing sellers need to do better? After choosing the right agent and selling your house, don’t second-guess about having left dollars on the table.

What’s your favorite LA neighborhood and why? I love the Santa Monica Canyon because every very house is unique, with spirited, accomplished, grateful and humble residents congregating there. The proximity to the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Monica Mountains, as well as many hip urban spots, makes it special.
