Mar Vista Architectural :: Ron Godfredsen, Architect

Once featured as an LA Times “Home of The Month” this Mar Vista residence has a low profile from the street, which, upon entry, gradually reveals the surprise of soaring ceilings, layered angles and reflecting light. This unusually large trapezoidal shaped plot of land allows the luxury of a single story structure with enough space for a 21st Century family. From the recessed entry, one is immediately drawn to the outdoor lap pool which creates flow from the interior to the natural surroundings and reflects its surface light onto the ceiling canopy. The triangular great room encompasses the open kitchen, with island, brilliantly concealing the appliances and supplies from the adjoining living and dining room. A dual-sided fireplace with soft stainless surround serves the living room and patio, where the roof line's extended axis creates an outdoor living area. The family room, with an outdoor patio as its backdrop, serves as the interface between the public areas and the bedrooms. The master bedroom is flooded with light, and offers a serene gravel garden as a private outdoor sanctuary. The surfaces throughout the home are a combination of polished concrete, steel columns and straight grain Douglas fir cabinetry. The garage has been converted into a sky-lit studio.
